Boys and Girls Brigade

1. INTRODUCTION TO BOYS AND GIRLS BRIGADE

Boys and Girls Brigade is a Christian Organization made of all kinds of people of all ages but mainly the Youth.

The History of Boys and Girls Brigade goes back to the world history.it was started by Sir William Alexander Smith on 4^th/October 1883 in Glasgow in Scotland.

Boys and Girls Brigade started expanding and growing where it came into Africa and more particularly Rwanda where it arrived in the Diocese of Gahini brought by Missionaries of ‘Church Missionery Society’ in 1935.

After Gahini, the following years it expanded in all parts of the country, then it came in Shyira Diocese Parish of Shyira one of the founders of BGB named below Canon NSABIMANA Jean Damascene Canon NDIMKAGA and Canon RUZINDANA Emmanuel After starting Boys and Girls Brigade there has many challenges and led to some down fall in 1975 it was restarted again by Archbishop Emmanuel Mbona Kolini at Cathedral St. Etienne and Remera Parish with the support from some members of BGB of Uganda and Kenya.

STRUCTURE OF BOYS AND GIRLS BRIGADE

Every small group at the church level has sections many churches make up a Company. Many Parishes make up a Battalion 2 or 3 Diocese make up a Province and many Provinces make up National Boys and Girls Brigade and when National Boys and Girls Brigade come together to make a Regional Fellowship and Rwanda has Joined the East African Regional Fellowship. Regional fellowships when combined make the Global fellowship which is the Global leadership worldwide.

NB: Boys and Girls Brigade is a Faith Based Organization working in all Christian Bodies that means is does not look at Denominations.

After Boys and Girls Brigade came into the Diocese it restarted on 21/11/2004 with the Support from the Rt Rev John RUCYAHANA with the support from Captain Rev.Mwizerwa Eric who had given the first trainings. Boys and Girls Brigade in  Shyira Diocese has regained momentum and give birth  to the Diocese of Kivu and supported other 2 Diocese of Butare and Byumba.

The main Aim of Boys Brigade is to expand and grow the Kingdom of God:

The Aim of Girls Brigade is to help girls to be Followers of Jesus Christ our King.

Age groups of BOYS AND GIRLS BRIGADE

1. Group called Anchors Section: Age 6-8.
2. Group called Junior Section :Age 9-11
3. Group called Company Section :Age 12-14
4. Group called Senior Section: All above 15.

Principles of Boys and Girls Brigade:

1. RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS

Every year we work together in bringing and recruit new members by helping,teach,train them. We asked the Assistant trainer to follow up and give the report that can help us in getting a clear view of Boys and Girls Brigade.We have children in Murambo, Cathedral (Ryandinzi subparish),Nyamutera and Mukamira who are ready to bring in new members this year.

When giving ranks to new members President or the trainer give new members Lieutenant because Captain can only be giving out by Capt Eric or Trainer Aristobile.
